LEGO Replacement Piece Arrived Damaged? Check This First
Short answer: do not submit the original missing-piece request again. Keep the replacement envelope and case reference, check that the element ID and colour match what was requested, then photograph the damage beside the packaging. Send that compact record to LEGO Customer Service and ask for the next step on the replacement shipment.
This is a post-delivery check for a replacement that arrived bent, marked, cracked, incomplete or otherwise unusable. If the original set bag held the wrong element, use the wrong-piece swap check. If no replacement can be selected, use the replacement-stock check.
Benchmark reading: LEGO.com explains that replacement availability varies for older sets; Music City Bricks focuses on finding a shortage and filing a new-set request; Reddit cases discuss the limits of replacement supply. None provides a compact handoff for damage discovered in the delivered replacement. The receipt-to-report route below is BrickMend's original organization of that gap.
1. Separate damage from a mismatch
| What arrived | What to compare | Report it as |
|---|---|---|
| Correct part, cracked or bent | Element ID, colour and quantity match the request | Condition damage in a delivered replacement |
| Correct shape, wrong colour or print | Requested colour-specific element ID and any print | Replacement mismatch, not condition damage |
| Different part or quantity | Requested element and count versus the envelope contents | Replacement shipment discrepancy |
| Nothing arrived | Case reference and any delivery estimate | Delivery follow-up; do not claim item damage |
Use the narrowest accurate description. A colour mismatch needs a different correction from a crack, and an empty envelope is a delivery question. This distinction keeps the original case traceable.
2. Build a five-item condition card
Before handling, sorting or testing the piece, make one small record:
- Case reference: the confirmation number or correspondence for the original request.
- Requested element: set number, element ID, colour and quantity.
- Arrival record: the date received plus the envelope or packing label.
- Condition evidence: one overall photo and one close image showing the crack, warp, mark or missing feature.
- Build impact: whether the issue is cosmetic, structural or prevents the next instruction step.
A photo should identify the actual delivered piece without exposing personal details from the shipping label. Cover the address before attaching it, while retaining any non-sensitive shipment or case reference needed by support.
3. Ask one case-specific question
Use a short message: “This replacement for set [number], element [ID] in [colour], arrived [condition]. My case reference is [reference]. What is the next step for this replacement shipment?” Attach the condition card. It tells support that the original shortage was already reported and avoids opening a duplicate request with incomplete context.
Do not force a visibly cracked element into a structural connection to test it. If a replacement is merely scuffed and the build can continue, state that it is cosmetic rather than implying a safety or production finding.
4. Keep the outcome connected to the original request
| Support outcome | Keep | Next move |
|---|---|---|
| New replacement is offered | Old case reference and the new confirmation | Wait for the stated delivery route; keep the flawed piece until the case is clear |
| More evidence is requested | Original photos and packaging image | Reply to the same case with the requested close-up or identifier |
| Exact part cannot be supplied | Written availability answer | Use the stock check before considering a paid fallback |
| Replacement is a mismatch | Both requested and received element details | Ask for correction of the shipment rather than re-filing the original shortage |
For a discontinued or unavailable exact replacement, a marketplace can be a later option. Search only by the verified element ID, colour, print and orientation; the eBay link is a paid fallback, not evidence that an official replacement is unavailable.

One-minute delivery check
- I kept the shipment or case reference with the delivered piece.
- I checked the element ID, colour and quantity before calling it damaged.
- I photographed the condition and covered private address details.
- I described damage, mismatch, shortage or non-delivery accurately.
- I will continue in the original support case rather than duplicate the request.
Checked 14 October 2026. Replacement handling can vary by element, region and case.
